Generator inlet & connection by Switch It Up Electric
Generator inlet & connection · real project, Southwest Florida
What this page covers: the electrical connection only. Switch It Up Electric installs inlets, interlocks, transfer switches and the wiring that connects a generator to your home. We do not sell or install complete standby generator systems.
What the work includes

What you get.

  • Generator inlet box installation sized to your generator
  • Interlock kit installation on your existing panel, where the panel allows it
  • Manual or automatic transfer switch installation and wiring
  • Wiring and breaker work so selected circuits run during an outage
  • Permit and inspection handled by the licensed contractor
  • A walk-through on how to hook up and switch over safely
What affects cost

No surprise pricing.

Every project is different. These are the things that move the price, and John will go through them with you before you commit:

  • Generator size and the inlet amperage you need (for example 30A or 50A)
  • Whether your panel supports an interlock kit or needs a transfer switch instead
  • Distance from the generator location to the panel
  • Which circuits you want to power, and whether a panel upgrade is needed
  • Permit requirements for your location

FAQ

Straight answers.

Do you install the generator itself?
No. Our work is the electrical side: inlet, interlock or transfer switch, and the wiring that connects your generator to your panel. If you already own a generator or are buying one, we make it work with your home.
Interlock or transfer switch, which is better?
It depends on your panel, your generator and which circuits you want to run. John will recommend the right option after seeing the panel and your needs.
Do I need a permit?
Generator connections generally involve permitting and inspection. As the licensed contractor, we handle that.
Is the estimate free?
Yes. Planned generator connection projects get a free, no-obligation written estimate.
